Digital Hardware Platform Solutions

To complement Radiocomp's solutions for radio access networks, we offer comprehensive digital hardware designs for both the remote end as well as for the controlling end of the base station.

  • Local Converter platform for the Base Station side of the OBSAI RP3-01 or CPRI link

  • High Speed Digital Unit platform for the Remote Radio Head side with OBSAI RP3-01 or CPRI link

With this comprehensive suite of products anyone in the radio access value chain can shorten their time to market, reduce development costs and improve return on investments.

High Speed Digital Unit (HSDU) Platform

The HSDU (High Speed Digital Unit) is an OBSAI RP3-01/CPRI-compliant low-cost hardware platform designed for Remote Radio Head and Base Station appliications. Together with the Radiocomp IP Cores the HSDU is a state-of-the-art reference design for the fast-track development of OBSAI RP3-01 and CPRI-based interfacing systems for distributed base station radio infrastructure. For more information on this product download our Product Brief in PDF format. Also make sure that you have a look at our OBSAI & CPRI Tutorial & Primer (PDF) available for download.

Local Converter (LC) Platform

Radiocomp’s local converter maps User Data (IQ format), Control and Management (Ethernet/RP3 Control Messages for OBSAI RP3-01 and Ethernet/HDLC/VSS/L1 for CPRI) and Synchronization Data into OBSAI RP3-01 or CPRI interfaces and carries the information over optical fiber to and from a remote radio head. It supports up to two optical links at 3.072 Gbps that can –for example- be used as a redundant link. The optical interfaces are SFP modules and hence any distance and wavelength supported by an SFP is supported by the local converter. The local converter has several applications and importantly supports both OBSAI RP3-01 v.4.0 and CPRI v.4.0 based radio access networks:

  • Assist system providers with getting fast to market using a field proven reference design including SW and OBSAI RP3-01/CPRI IP cores.

  • Enable legacy RF based base stations to be upgraded to support optical access over OBSAI/ RP3-01/CPRI.

  • Can be supplied as a product or as a reference design for easy integrating it into AMC/MicroTCA form factors.

The local converter is fully compliant with OBSAI RP3 v4.0 as well as CPRI v4.0 and hence supports virtually any radio access technology including WCDMA, GSM, CMDA, LTE and WiMAX.
Due to the flexibility of Radiocomp’s design and IP cores the local converter can further be adopted to alternative access technologies such as TETRA as well as other geographical and proprietary formats of CPRI standards.
